(a)Define the memory unit of a computer?

The memory unit is the most important part of a computer. Memory units are used to store data and instructions that are currently in use. It is necessary to know about all the memory units of the computer. First, we understand what memory units are:

"Memory unit is the amount of data that can be stored in the storage unit. Storage capacity is expressed in terms of bytes."

(b)What is Bit?

A bit is also called binary digit or binary number system. A computer can only understand the binary digit. Binary digits consists of values (0,1). A bit at a time can store only one of these two binary values either 0 or 1.0 shows the passive state of the signal while 1 shows the active state of the signal.

(c)What is Nibble?

A collection of four bits is called Nibble.

(d)What is Byte?

A collection of 8 bits is called Byte. Bytes are stored digitally (tape, disc), etc to define the amount of data on storage. Each keyboard character is stored as a Byte.

(e)What is Word?

A computer word is a combination of a fixed number of bits. A computer usually stores data in the form of computers.

imp MCQs: Smallest measuring unit of memory is Bit(0,1).
