Web 2.0

It is a set of techniques that provides an upgraded presentation for the World Wide Web. Web can be classified as a social web in which the user is also a participant. The Web provides opportunities for an individual to collaborate, interact with one another. It also provides opportunities to create new content using an application like wikis, podcasts, social networking, and blogs.

(1)  Blogs

It is a shortcut for Web blogs. Blogs are an easy way for users to express opinions online. The blog is used to publish views. Blogs have become a powerful tool for individuals and groups to promote ideas. Many business organizations use blogs to promote ideas and advertise their products. Bloggers' posts often contain links to other websites. People can also earn through blogs. Many good blogs are written by experts in different fields such as computer, technology, medical, etc. Popular websites to create blogs are Blogger and WordPress. Both websites provide the facility for the user to create free accounts and blogs.

Microblogging

In this type of blogging, posts are limited to a small number of characters. Twitter is a microblogging website. 

Tweet: It is a Twitter post, where the user can write a post limited to 140 characters.

(2)  Wiki

It is a website. It is used to create, add, modify or delete content using a web browser. These websites are suited for collaboration writing. Wiki websites may contain errors, so they should not be used as a primary source. Popular Wiki is Wikipedia.

  • It is used to create an easy and simple student-oriented website.
  • It is used to display the student's projects.
  • It is used to share data that can be viewed by students.

(3) Podcasts

It is recorded audio stored in a file on the website. It is a popular way to share verbal information on the Web. Podcasts for radio shows, magazines, educational programs, etc. Many universities and colleges during covid supply students with course content update through podcasts. Many podcasts are available on the internet to get any kind of information. 

Podcasting: The process of uploading and downloading a podcast is called podcasting.

Podcaster: The author of a podcast is also called a podcaster.

Video podcast: It is a podcast that contains video and audio.

A popular website to find podcasts is ipodder.org.

Application of Podcast for Education

  • It is quickly becoming popular in education. 
  • Podcasts enable students and teachers to share a different kinds of information with anyone at any time on the internet.
  • It can be produced by students for use by other students.
  • Teachers can create podcasts of a lesson.

(4) Social Bookmarking

It is used to organize, store, share and search bookmarks of web pages. In this system, users save links to web pages that they want to remember. Bookmarks are usually public. People can view bookmarks by tags or category via a search engine.

(5) Social Networking

It is a way of creating online communities. People use these websites to communicate with one another. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram is popular social networking websites. Social networking websites that professionals use such as LinkedIn, Myspace, etc. It allows the user to create a personalized profile that can be viewed online. Profiles may include information such as name, age, qualification, address, hobbies, pictures, etc.

(6) WebCast

Recent webcasts allow users to give interactive responses.
