Extreme programming was developed by KENT BECK. Extreme programming is a designed to support a small medium software development teams. Extreme programming is a software development methodology which is intended to improve software quality. 

Values of Extreme Programming

(1) Communication

There should be a good communication between the team and client. The entire team members should work together to complete task.

(2) Simplicity

Team members will focus on things that matters and do not waste time on things that they does not ask for. 

(3) Courage

Developers should have the courage to take fast decision due to the collective ownership.

(4) Feedback

Fast feedback will increase the effectiveness of the process. 

Example

Developers  :    Estimate the user stories and respond with estimations.

Customers   :   Test the software and send feedback that will increase the quality.

Activities in Extreme Programming

(1) Coding

  • All developers should follow predefined code standards. 
  • The code is based on the customer user stories.
  • First code is written for unit test.

(2) Testing

  • The code should be tested with a dedicated unit test. 
  • All tests should run on every new build.

(3) Listening

  • Developers should listen carefully to the client requirements about how the system should developed.
  • Developers should also listen to the client feedback.

(4) Designing

  • A good and simple design will reduce the complexity of the system.
  •  Every developer can take an active part in the design process.

Advantages

    • Collaboration with customers.
    • Flexibility to developers.
    • Easy to manage.
    • Fewer documentation required.

Disadvantages

  • Depends on customer interaction.
  • The transfer of technology to new team members may be quite challenging due to lack of documentation.
